SCAD FASHION 2024: Unique visions from six international fashion design students
SCAD is renowned for its diverse student body and the exceptional talent the university fosters. This year, several international fashion design students made a name for themselves through innovative collections showcasing impeccable skill and unique perspectives. As they prepared to debut their designs at the highly anticipated SCAD FASHION 2024 runway show, we had the opportunity to speak with six rising stars about their journeys, inspirations, and aspirations

Lakshita Srinivas (B.F.A., fashion, 2024), originally from Mumbai, India, created a collection titled Netra, which means "eyes" in Sanskrit. Her designs are a captivating fusion of Indian dance forms, such as Bharatanatyam and Kathak, with the vibrant aesthetics of the 1970s.
I feel really honored and grateful for everything that I've gone through to reach this point," Srinivas shared. "To have my work out there for people to see, I just feel like I do have a vision that's different.

Rakee Chen (M.F.A., fashion, 2024), hailing from China, took a unique approach to her 'The ERA' collection by incorporating AI-generated visuals and music. Inspired by Renaissance art and the artist's journey through time, Chen used a custom music program to create distinctive prints for her fabrics.
I feel I will be admired," Chen expressed, reflecting on being selected for the fashion show. "I'm so glad to have this opportunity.

Jiyoung Park (B.F.A., fashion, 2024), from South Korea, she delves into the notion of revealing secrets. Her collection, Secret Bursting, showcases voluminous silhouettes that vividly represent the expansion of concealed truths. The textured quilting in her designs adds depth and complexity, evoking the layers that shroud these secrets.
Park emphasized the importance of honing your voice and vision. Park discovered the beauty of creative process while studying at SCAD.
"Focus on yourself and do whatever you want. Because after graduating, as I was interning at a company, they always said to me, 'there is only a chance that I can be seen for me," Park advised.

Ran Lu (B.F.A., fashion, 2024), from China, developed a collection titled, Symbiosis, that aims to bridge the gap between urban buildings and the natural environment. Inspired by architect Zaha Hadid's design style, Lu used 3D printing and knitting techniques to create a harmonious blend of architecture and nature.

Huaimeng (Maria) Zhang (B.F.A., fashion, 2024), also from China, created a whimsical collection titled Don't Wake Me Up Mama. Zhang's designs invite viewers to escape into a joyful, fictional wonderland that celebrates color and texture.
"After my collection got picked for a runway show, I feel like my life changed because so many opportunities are just offered to me now," Zhang revealed. "I recommend everyone just do the thing, complete yourself because you have to pursue yourself. You have to listen to the real sound in your heart." Phoebe Sun's 'Fruit of Love' collection explores China's fruit-gifting culture through a range of colors, flavors, and the symbolic meaning of each fruit. Photos by SCAD
Phoebe Sun (B.F.A., fashion, 2024), born in Taiwan and raised in China, created a collection called Fruits of Love. Inspired by her experience with the fruit-gifting culture in China, Sun explored the concept of love through the diverse colors, flavors, and meanings associated with fruits.
